The Caille Brothers Venus upright with music

The Venus is generally regarded as the most attractive slot machine ever made.  The oak case was constructed with a slant front, also called a beveled front as described in the original Caille Catalogue.  This model's uniqueness also stems from being the only gaming machine that could be changed to accept nickels or quarters.  Another highly unusual feature was the anti-theft lock and shutter.  When the front of the machine is unlocked, it has a shutter which closes the coin chutes.  The other innovative feature of the Venus is the one-at-a-time payout mechanism.  In all previously built machines, the coins were cut out in lump sums.

Circa: 1908
